Impact
Things that have had an impact on me, and things I hope will have an impact on you.
The Savvy Dirt Farmer
I’m in a Facebook group called Side Hustle Nation. I’m also lucky enough to have met Nick Loper at a conference. But that is not the point of the impact.
In that group, about a year ago as I write this, I saw a post from somebody who said he had started a backyard nursery and was now helping others to do the same simply by documenting and chronicling his journey.
When I checked out his YouTube channel, Savvy Dirt Farmer, he had about 21,000 subscribers and he had started that group about a year before. I was impressed with his numbers.
He now has double that.
I’ve enjoyed his content and gained a great deal of education.
However, that still isn’t the impact.
I recently found a wholesaler of hostas. I was excited. I found several variety that I waned to give a try. But I didn’t know if I should go ahead and make a big order or if I should just order a few, and get the hang of it first.
I mean, I didn’t know if this company was real or honest or if stuff was gonna arrive dead or not arrive at all.
This was kind of an investment for me.
So, I emailed Craig Odem, the Savvy Dirt Farmer to get his opinion. And I wrangled the idea around by myself as I waited, cuz I’m not sure if you know this… but he has stuff to do and didn’t just drop everything to respond to my email. 🙂
I decided to do it. I had checked out the company as well as I could and I felt pretty confident in them, so decided to just go ahead and order the 100 hostas I wanted to start with.
But then when I got to the checkout, I saw they had a minimum order which would more than double my intended order.
Oy Vay… Back to thinking it through again. I left the window open for an hour or so while I put my mind to other tasks. For me, that’s a great way to think through a problem, is to think about something else.
I really wanted to call my MasterMind partner, but she was dealing with some family health issues.
I tried to talk to my brother who just cannot see the goal or purpose and as you might have guessed, was less than supportive or helpful.
I decided to do it. On my own.
A short time later, I got an email response from Craig. And I’m sharing the whole thing here so you understand just how awesome he is. I think you can understand that at receiving and reading his last reply, I was kind of teary.
I’m alone here… but didn’t feel so alone after that.
This is the email I sent Craig.
And this was his response. … there’s… there’s something in my eye. (I’m VERY grateful to Craig for this response.)
